Hello, I’m Ian Pointer.
I’m the author of Programming PyTorch for Deep Learning.
For the past few years, I’ve been digging deep into:
- Search/IR/NLP (in particular vector search and embeddings in e-commerce domains)
- Model training (fine-tuning & RLHF techniques)
- Evaluation of embedding models and LLMs
Currently, I work as Senior Manager (Data Science) at Lucidworks, where I’m actively researching these topics:
- Embeddings (including multimodal, interpretability, and Matryoshka techniques)
- Reranking
- Synthetic Data Generation
